Learning to Balance

This year, I have committed to change my sleeping habits. From sleeping somewhere 1am to sleeping at 10pm. Consequently, I do wake up earlier – some time 6am now. Then I push myself to take a 30 minute walk in the morning sun. I admit, my skin is a lot more tanned now.

My kids Leo and Sage would always want to wake up alongside me to go with me. I walk and they ride their little bicycles.

I assembled Sage’s bike which was gifted to him last Christmas by his ninang Camille. It took a while for me to finally put it together but when I did, I soon found out that the training wheels are not touching the ground.

I could adjust it so that it rides balanced by itself with both wheels touching the ground as he rides on. But I opted not to so that he will learn to balance himself on the bike early on.

Whenever I’d walk, I would tell him to try to balance himself in the middle so that he can ride the bike with just 2 wheels like I do. He listens and does try. In fact, he is improving by a lot. I’m very proud of him.

This morning, Sage and Leo rode their bikes like usual. But they sped up a bit. I didn’t mind.

But sooner than later, Leo’s bike had its chain out of place and then one of Sage’s training wheels had some of its  rubber peel off. He wasn’t so happy about that and told me maybe he will walk instead.

I told him that the training wheel’s rubber won’t get any better even if he walks and it won’t get fixed either. He just has to keep riding his bike and keep getting better in balancing in the middle.

I also told them “It’s not important to go fast. Don’t go fast. Just learn to balance in the middle. That’s what’s important.”

Then I realize that the same statement applies to me directly.

You see, 2021 was an extremely fast-paced year because of the number of projects and clients that came in with SEO Hacker. I lived life without balance. I worked too hard on very long hours and I burned myself out without even noticing.

So this year, I’m committing myself to a life of balance. It doesn’t matter how many clients would come in, how hard the work will be, or how challenging managing a large, young and tech-savvy team is – God will always take care of me and provide for me.

Life’s like that – you try to find you balance. You wobble a bit. Sometimes you fall off and hurt yourself. Your training wheels wear off and it won’t be as good looking or ride as well again.

But then you learn to balance yourself in the middle and you realize that it’s a whole lot better riding that way. You get a new sense of excitement and joy and that takes you to new heights.

Don’t go fast. Just learn to balance in the middle.
