Greener Grass

It’s no secret – there is a ton of people resigning everywhere at all organizations in all countries. That’s for sure. What’s not so sure are the exact reasons why.

Perhaps people are allergic to change and it was choked down on their throats during the pandemic.

Perhaps with the forced change of the pandemic, they are easily attracted to new changes they can make in their lives as well (chasing shiny objects).

Perhaps they have discarded honor and reason and have just embraced selfishness – because they think that’s the way to go and grow their career or income.

Whatever the reasons are, it is sad that some don’t remember the sacrifices their leaders did for them during the pandemic.

It’s been 12 years since I started SEO Hacker from a dusty old attic and an 8-year-old laptop with nothing but 1,300 pesos in my account. We have grown by leaps and bounds today.

And you know what’s funny and strange? People who have helped build it to be so have left and the new ones who have not known the hardships of the earlier stages of the business are reaping the benefits.

It’s an eerie truth to business. The new ones who come in reap the most of the benefits because they are the ones who fit right into the necessary culture. They are also humbler, hungrier for ambition and a lot of them are often smarter in how they deal with the clients and leadership of the organization.

I’ve had tons of people come and gone under my wing. I’m quite sure a ton of them left in search for greener pastures and they believed the saying “The grass is greener at the other side.”

There are a few handful who have stayed with me through the tough years and have watered the grass over here at SEO Hacker and all I can say is, the grass is pretty darn lush and green here. We finally got to implement our performance bonus – which could potentially be a 14th and 15th month pay depending on the performance.

We are working on getting our HMO benefit finished this year. We are also giving free life insurance benefits for our veteran team players – on top of the 25 day paid time-offs they get  annually and all of the expensive training courses they are exposed to.

I guess at the beginning the grass on the other side is pretty darn attractive – that’s why some people leave. That is, until they find out it’s because it’s full of pesticide. They chew on that, and someday it will surely come back to bite them in the ass.
