Burnout

2021 was an extremely busy year for me and my team. I don’t remember being stuck on my computer in Zoom calls for longer than 8 hours except for the majority of my working days on 2021.

Do what you love

That’s what they say right? And they tell you that if you do what you love, you will never work for another day in your life.

I think that work will always be work. You may love the work you do – but not 100% of it. I don’t like doing a lot of things that I must do – such as contracts and legal stuff and firing people.

That said, I do love about 80% of the work I do and because of that, I learned that I have the strong tendency to miss signs of burnout and work my ass off while being completely burnt out at the same time.

Now don’t get me wrong, I do have a strategy in place to keep myself from burning out – but I wasn’t able to follow it. 2021 just hit me like a truck. I had tons of work and my wife was pregnant with our 3rd baby and she gave birth last Sept 2021 too. There’s was just too many things happening that I completely forgot my strategy to keep burnout at bay.

I’m not saying that 2021 was a bad year. In fact, it was a very blessed, very fruitful year for me and my team at SEO Hacker.

I guess I’m just writing this here as a reminder to myself and to all of my readers that burnout can be missed and overlooked. And you can charge full-speed, head first, straight into burnout without even knowing it – if you love what you do.

So this 2022 I hope and pray that God will allow me to build a better strategy to plan ahead and ensure that I don’t break myself, my body and my spirit through burnout. And even if I believe I’m “in the zone” at work, I should slap myself in the face and tell myself to take a vacation or two because not only is it good for me – but it’s good for the rest of the people I work with.
