Swell Time at Morcon 2013

15 Important Lessons

Had an awesome time giving a talk at Morcon 2013. The event was jam-packed with speakers so I figured I’d give a talk more on the business end of SEO. I shared about the 15 Important Lessons I Learned as an SEO Start-up. It was really fun talking in front, getting to know new people and just enjoying the event.

I had the opportunity to talk with Grant Merriel and Hans Koch as well as meet Venchito Jun, Valerie Deveza, Glen Dimaandal and Jonha Revesencio. It was an awesome group. Very fun and full of ideas and energy. Most of the people who attended were first timers though – wish there were more people who used to attend drop by next year – perhaps it’s because Jason Acidre is MIA in the event. They have an anniversary celebration with the Xight team.

I had to exchange ideas with Grant and Hans in the ‘after-party’. These guys are geniuses in their own right. They just kept pouring out stuff. In all honesty, I felt like a newbie to the online marketing realm.

Too bad I didn’t get to swim in the really nice pool. I imagine it would’ve felt awesome to relax on water there especially after stressing out on my talk. In any case, 2,500 for an SEO conference with the networking to boot – is well worth it.

I got to bunk in with Cell Jacela of Cellconversion, Nikko Marasigan and with Rex Malvas. I expected it would’ve been a rowdy room but 2 of them just immediately bunked out after the overextended drinking session.

It was both humbling and fun to finally meet people there – people who follow SEO Hacker and who plan to go pro in our SEO School. I never felt that SEO Hacker was read by that much people. Today was an eye opener that I’m really doing something good and helpful. I think that that’s one great thing I got out of Morcon.

It was also refreshing to see Glen Dimaandal again – and as a speaker too. Very interesting talk about corporate SEO and how big companies move with the fast-paced game of searchability.

Here’s my personal opinion though: I think Morcon will see more and more success and better word of mouth if there are a filtered few, awesome speakers pooled in to talk about their expertise. There are those who are awesome in what they know but who are bad in delivering it in a stage and then there’s the people who are full of swag without the actual application to prove it.

There’s that fine line in between and if Morcon can get the people in that line as the speaker lineup, I think that Morcon has a huge, huge potential to tip and go viral and attract a huge crowd to attend and network and talk about SEO. It can be a driving force of SEO in our country. It’s a great start – just needs a few improvements.

Perhaps we should have SEO speakers go through public speaking training? I don’t know. But it might be well worth a try.

We got a good thing running. I look forward to next year’s.
