Being a visionary, I have the tendency to keep thinking about the future as if it was the most important thing. However looking at the reality of things, the most important thing is actually what I do today.
We overestimate what tomorrow can be for us and we overexaggerate the past as if it was better than today – this is mostly the case for most of us. With that, we underestimate our present day as if it can just be discarded off the books.
I guess this is a reminder for me to make each day count. Today matters. Before I eat food that would be bad for me, I would now care to remind myself that today matters and what I eat today matters too. Before I shrug off exercise, I would now care to remind myself that today matters.
Before I overwork myself, I would care to remind myself that today matters and I need to spend time to rest. Before I overthink my problems and worry about the worst things that could possibly happen, I need to remind myself that today matters and I could do only what I could do – the rest, I have to lift up to God who controls everything.
Our past has helped shape who we are today. Our future is directed by what we do and learn today. Today matters. Make it count.
