Why believe in a god? This question, as I’ve learned in the recent youth camp of my highschool (Makati Hope Christian School) Utopia, is a question that’s spread throughout the society of California. It’s publicly displayed for all to see – in buses, trains and billboards.believe2

I wrote this blog early this morning after I had my quiet time. God spoke to me. I was at Jeremy’s place – in the attic – alone as my brother and his classmates were playing the Wii.

Why believe in a god? The whole world is looking at us Christians and asking us this question. The only answer that will ever be acceptable to them is not logical reason (or any reason for that matter), not human explanation and not even explanation from the Bible. They will only accept and understand one answer to that question – LOVE.

This is how the world will know that there is a God – if we love one another. Truly love one another.

There are certain people who are severely proud and irritating – they are so hard to love. But you know what I found out? Love and humility comes hand in hand. The only thing that would keep you from loving a proud person – guess what – is your own pride.

But people like them must be loved – especially by us Christians whom their last hope for love rests – because we are supposed to be the human representatives of Jesus and God’s love to the world.

People like that lack love – that’s why the natural thing to do is that they try to fill that lack of love with themselves – so much so that they express their love for themselves with other people (and this is true even with Christians… In fact, especially with Christians)

And our natural reaction is “Ang Yabang naman nito!” And the reason for that reaction, my friends, is that we have our very own pride to tend to – and it’s telling us to be disgusted with people who are severely proud, or maybe even just plain proud.

why believe

Approaching a stranger and telling him/her your name and asking for him/her name is a very hard thing to do for some people nowadays. But let me tell you the truth:  that is the first personal humility that that certain person will ever see from you. And that is the first personal love that that person will ever feel from you. Such a little thing as that does so much to a person – and it already says so much about you – especially if you never really needed to approach that person anyway. We always think “We’ve got nothing to lose if I don’t get to know this person.” But let me tell you the truth – You’ll never know what you would have gained if you never reach out to other people.

You might not lose everything but you will never know what God would have done through your relationship with that stranger had you not approached him/her. So I tell you, choose no one. Love ALL people – even your enemies. Do the extraordinary, go the long road. Do those little things that seem like they’re unnecessary to your own eyes. In time, God will reward you and He sees every little thing you do for Him and for the people He died for.

Always smile and never flatter – your eyes will always tell the truth. Speak out of love, rebuke out of love, act out of love.

I would not be enjoying the saturdays with my group in church if i had no group and most of my disciples did not approach me and offered to be in my group, I invited them – I approached them and befriended them and loved them. Had I not done that, I would have missed the fun that God is continuing to bless me with through my group.

The 12 disciples of Jesus did not just pop up from nowhere – they were called by Jesus.

So I tell you the truth, love one another. Love them with God’s unconditional love. Choose no one and die to yourself in humlity. Live Jesus in your life and let other people see it. Then the whole world will know that we are God’s people.

Why believe in a God?

Why not?

Show them. Love is more than enough reason to believe that there is a God.
