I’ve talked with a lot of people – Christians and non-Christians alike. And often times, non-Christians would tell me that the Bible is written by man – so what makes it special? If it’s written by man, then it must be just thought up by man too! Makes sense? I would think so – at least in the aspect of human logic and reasoning.
So what do I say when people ask me about the divinity of the Bible – when they ask me if it is really God-breathed or if it’s really God’s word?
1: The Bible has changed lives in ways that are not in accordance to human reason and logic. Other books have changed the lives of people but in ways that are practical to us human beings. Only the Bible has changed people in a positive way that doesn’t make sense – because we can’t understand the way God thinks. I believe that it is the only book that exists up until now that has changed the most lives in our world.
2: The Bible is the only book written by several authors (about 40), with different classes and backgrounds: from peasants to prostitutes to kings, in different generations and periods in time but has only one central message: Jesus Christ. If you’ve read the Bible at least once – and you really understand it, I’m sure you will agree with me when I say this. Everything that the authors wrote in the Bible would all point to Jesus and His story as He died for us to save us from eternal death because the justice of God demands death for us to have life.
3: The Bible is the only book that claimed it was God-breathed.
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
4: The Bible is the only book that exists for the longest time, translated in several different languages. It’s wisdom is immeasurable, it’s message is amazingly gracious, it’s nature is Holy, the Bible can only be God-breathed to be so.
Why do I say, the Bible is God-breathed? Because it has changed my life and I’ve seen it, felt it and lived it – THAT ALONE IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE FOR ME. And I know God will credit me for my faith even if my knowledge of it was but a handful back then.
