Greener Grass

Roughly 95% of all employees age 30 and below are job-skippers.

These are people who are looking for ‘Greener Grass’.

As of now, there is, in fact ‘Greener Grass’

These are the foreign companies that are coming in here in the Philippines and setting up shop while punching in very attractive packages to draw in good hires.

I’ve heard a lot of stories in my day where these packages slowly and painfully diminish to nothing – and the company exits the country.

What’s the loss for job-skippers? Essentially very small in terms of salary – as salary generally goes up when they get their next employment due to supposed ‘earned’ experience.

However the real loss is not in salary but in opportunity.

If job-skippers were instead company-builders, they would be easily part of the board of directors, executive committee or at least the management committee.

Why do I say ‘easily’ ?

Well, because they would be the upper 5% so they would immediately stand-out.

Is it easy to be a company-builder than a job-skipper?

Not really as we are used to a world on-demand.

We want things HERE and NOW.

Waiting is out of the window.

So job-skipping is the norm and company-building is the exception.

But when you really think about it, the grass isn’t greener on the other side.

It’s actually greener where you water it.
