Pillar of Fire

I have been reading the Bible since I was 12 and I’m back again in the book of Exodus. I’m reminder at how God settles in the midst of his people – the Israelites – every day through a cloud of glory and a cloud of fire by night.

This kind of closeness and proximity is something that the next generations of Israelites never experienced since. God trusted this exact generation – the Egypt generation – with His glory and power and ability and miracles!

That exact generation of Israelites who have seen God’s miracles in Egypt before their very eyes and who have experienced God’s coming and going in their midst as a miraculous, glorious cloud each day and night – got wiped out.

God decided to wait for every last one of them to die (except for two men – Joshua and Caleb) before God led them to the promised land.

I can’t help but reflect in my own life as the CEO and Founder of SEO Hacker– how this applies.

When you put people close to you, (who are working in close proximity to you and whom you have led closely and have groomed and grown) and they resent you, begin to have contempt for you or simply begin to refuse to work under your authority – I realize now that there is no redemption for them.

When people have experienced God in that close, intimate and glorious way and they begin to have contempt for Him and refuse His authority, God wiped them out – how the heck could I lead myself to believe that I could change the hearts of such obstinate people?

I realize now from the book of Exodus that there is no redemption for people like that anymore. The answer is to simply let them go and part ways.
