Sean and AppleWhen I was young, I loved to sing. I would sing everywhere – the car, the roof, and yes even in the shower. I don’t really remember telling God that I wanted a girlfriend or a wife who is able to sing – it’s not really a ‘non-negotiable’ trait that I was looking for in a partner. But I would easily fall in love with a girl who had a wonderful voice.

If you didn’t know, I used to be a wedding singer. I sang at weddings and debuts and everything in between. I took voice lessons when I was younger. Although, it’s not the typical voice lessons that people normally go through. My voice teacher just had me sing and sing and sing and sing – all the songs that I thought wasn’t a good fit for my voice.

I thought my voice was more for the boy-band kind of genre (don’t blame me for growing up with Westlife and Backstreet Boys). But my voice teacher had me sing James Ingram, David Benoit, Blue Magic, and all the types of voices that I thought were foreign to my vocal chords.

Sean Si SingingI loved singing.

And deep in my heart I knew I wanted my girl to sing with me someday.

I met Apple in a singles retreat in CCF. She was one of the most charming girls I’ve ever met. The thing is, looking back, one thing that really caught me that night was her voice.

She has a very lovely voice.

I didn’t know she could sing though. Not until one night when I learned she volunteered to sing for team #2 of the singles worship service in CCF. It just so happened that I was one of the singers on team # 1.

I never thought that my dream of having a girl who sings would come true. It’s such a small thing. But the Lord knew this all along.

“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4

God’s best for me is really someone who makes me “Wow!” multiple times in a day.

You see, I’ve met a lot of people in my life. I’m active at church and I make it a point to connect with people. Consequently I’ve met a lot of girls in my life. Some of them interested me. And those that did, I tried to get to know.

It turns out that not one had ALL the little things I wished for. And I told myself “Well, you can’t have it all Sean.” So I lowered my expectations.

I was wrong.

I can say that Apple is the woman I’ve always dreamed of.

Sean and Apple Love ActuallyShe could sing, write, dance, grab opportunities, take risks, do business, communicate effectively and interestingly, and everything in between. She’s one of a kind.

And you know what I realized?

God’s best does exist.

“He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.” – Proverbs 18:22

There’s a singles event in CCF named ‘Love Actually’ where we were able to sing together on stage. It was a dream come true for me. We sang ‘Way back into Love.’

She exists. But there are three things you need to do:

1. Delight in the Lord – He is the only one who can ever fill your needs as a human being.

2. Make sure that you’re the best man/woman you can ever be in all 5 standpoints.

3. Go out. Find her.

I wished for a girl who sings. God blessed me with a girl who’s all that and more.

Don’t settle for second best. The fact is, you can’t marry the best when you’re dating the runner-up. While you’re searching for Ms. Right, don’t settle for Ms. Right Now.

I know I didn’t. And you know what?

It’s all worth it!
