Sean and Apple Si - 3 years

3 Wonderful years.

That’s it so far for me. That’s the length of my married life from they day I said “I do” to this day.

I’ve always thought to myself that I would never fall to the common ‘traps’ of Christian husbands.

  • The trap of busy-ness.
  • The trap of being unloving/unkind during conflict.
  • The trap of being passive about romance.
  • The trap of being lazy with house chores.
  • The trap of passive leadership.
  • The trap of fighting over things that are trivial/foolish.
  • And so many other traps besides.

I have to be intentional. I have to be loving. I have to be considerate. Ultimately because I want to glorify God and I desire His blessings through my prayers.

“Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.” – 1 Peter 3:7

For me and my wife, it’s almost our third anniversary. We’re still a young couple and it feels just like we’ve been together for a year or less – but we’ve already been through a lot.

I guess I’m writing this more as a reminder for myself that I have fallen into traps I never thought I would fall into.

The thing is, falling into those traps felt more like a slow, subtle slide than a sudden slip. I expected the slip. I never expected the slide.

Better keep my guard up.
