I tuned in to the Entreleadership podcast during a workout one morning and I stumbled upon this idea: everyone wants to live extraordinary lives but don’t put in the extra time and effort to have it.
It’s quite true.
We want to be different, we want to be successful, we don’t like worrying about our finances or budgeting.
But at the end of the day, what do we do with our ‘spare time’?
We spend it on ordinary things that ordinary people do – entertainment, self-gratification, or sleep.
I’m not saying these things are bad. It’s the frequency that it’s done versus the time spent becoming extraordinary that directs the course of our lives.
People who will never be extraordinary do ordinary things everyday and never do anything extra.
These are the kinds of people who you want to do routine work in your team. They will never ring the excellence bell and they cannot demand more pay and benefits because there is nothing extra about them.
People who have an extraordinarily successful life trajectory, these are people who, when they get some spare time will crank their efforts up a notch.
I used to experiment tons of times after working hours – learning more about SEO. I was pumped to do this much more than my day job back then. That set me up to an extraordinary course – to be the CEO of the #1 ranking SEO company in the Philippines.
Now me and my team gets to enjoy the leads that come flowing in from our website(s) naturally and the business has grown steadily. We are a 50-man team now serving numerous clients in different sectors.
What is more important for you? To have fun, enjoy, travel the world and have a great experience?
Or to live a successful, extraordinary life that will leave a legacy not just to your children but to the world at large?
I would pick the latter any time of the day.
This is why, when you see the big picture of the activities I do, I always put in the extra time, work, dedication, experiments that I know will take me further than anyone else.
Because if you do things that everyone else is doing, you’ll end up like them. Ordinary.
But if you do the hard things that no one else is doing, then you get to live a life that no one else is living. An extraordinary, successful life.
