Pleasure. The word is leaning on quite a negative connotation these days. When we hear the word “pleasure” oftentimes, a picture not devoid of sin is painted in our thoughts. The word pleasure has been tainted by the world.

How has this happened?

We try so hard to find exciting new things for pleasure

We try so hard to find exciting new things for pleasure

People have gone their own ways, seeking pleasures for themselves without even thinking of putting God in the picture. We have sought after pleasure as if it was a drug. Trying out new and exciting things just to fulfil our desire, our hunger and thirst for pleasure.

And as such, pleasure has been explored – not in its purest entirety but in a state that is marred by lust, pride, sensuality, and other self-serving ends.

Did you know that pleasure is made by God?

Colossians 1:16

“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.”

Pleasure is a good thing made by God for us to enjoy our lives here on Earth. God honors pleasure and promises different kinds of pleasures to us. Pleasure for the purpose of itself will have meaningless ends. Searching for pleasure for the consummation of your desire will leave you empty.

Real pleasure is just enjoying something to glorify God. He made pleasure possible. And “The ultimate pleasure is found in intimacy where God alone is enjoyed in worship.”

Psalm 16:11

You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

“Only God is big enough to give us true pleasure that we may hear His voice.” – Ravi Zacharias
