Life’s Differences
People have different backgrounds. Even if you tell me that you are very similar with your boyfriend / girlfriend, you are still brought up in two different households, knowing two different set of parents, having two different upbringing. These things define your character, your beliefs, your identity.
These differences can make or break your relationship – even your marriage.
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” – 2 Corinthians 6:14
Unchanging Foundations
To what will you place your blueprint on? Emotions? Your feelings are ever-changing. Especially in this age when emotions are fluctuating and justified in every way. It is the time and age of consumerism where emotions are highlighted. It is punctuated with the phrase: “I want it NOW.”
Will you base it on the physical? Even our physical features are ever-changing. Someday your partner may not look the same as he or she does right now. Are you going to build your relationship on such a blueprint?
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” – Proverbs 31:30
How about financial? Can you really say that you can build your blueprint on your financial stability?
“In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.” – Proverbs 23:5 (NLT)
Will you base it on your intellectual capacity? Even our minds have their limit. And Even that comes from the Lord.
“For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” – Proverbs 2:6
A Father’s Love
God is a loving God – He does not want your marriage to go up for grabs. Build your blueprint on something that is unchanging – God Himself. Share the same unchanging treasure, delight, desire and blueprint with your partner.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:21
If you and your partner have the same treasure, your hearts will be found in one place. Make the Lord your treasure. Build from the same blueprint – and your home will be a wonderful, God-glorifying story that you can share with the world.
