Salary sacred

I recently fired a person in our team mainly due to the fact that the person maliciously spread the salaries of some of the people in my team. How that person knew the salaries, that is beyond me and that is besides the point of this post.

Right now we are feeling the consequences of that person’s malicious actions. Some of the people in the team suddenly had higher expectations of salaries. They could have been good team players and go-to people in our growing company. But because of these crazy expectations (and perhaps greed) we are, unfortunately going to lose them.

I can’t blame them though. They are victims of well-spread out deception. Sadly, the company is taking the most hits because we need to look for replacements once more and try out new people and mix them into our team’s chemistry.

Gossip is cause for immediate termination in our company’s contracts. And the reason is very simple: it’s not helpful to know another person’s salary. Whether yours is higher or lower, someone will feel bad.

I never understood why people would share their salaries and would like to know another person’s salary.

It’s like measuring dicks. You just don’t measure your dick and compare it with a colleague would you? What would that achieve?

In any case, I hope that the leaders in my team know the gravity of what has transpired. And I hope that the next time that it happens, the person would immediately be flagged and terminated so as to not cause any further harm to the team.
