Angelyn Si - Vision on Sunset

So few companies now have vision. Real vision of the future they want to attain. It’s a sad reality of our world because without vision, people would have different directions – often they put their own personal agendas first.

We’ve always had a vision for where we want SEO Hacker to be but we’ve never had a vision of where we want each individual team to be. I realize the importance of this but we have put it off for a very, very long time – too long.

We recently had 3 weeks of mission, vision and purpose statement planning with each team representative that we have. They would then improve on this with their own respective teammates and on the 4th week, we would have the final draft of their mission, vision and purpose statements. I’m thrilled to finally be able to have a solid compass that would point us to our north stars.

The plan is to print these statements and hang them on the walls of our office. It sounds like an intangible exercise but too often we overlook our lives and zoom through our days without even thinking about what we really want to do with it. We don’t think about where we are and where we want to be.

I’m turning 34 in a couple of days – according to Moses in the Bible we only have 70 years to live:

As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is only trouble and tragedy;” – Psalm 90:10

So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.” – Psalm 90:12

I’m almost at my half-life in this world. What have I been able to accomplish? Where do I want to be in the next 35 years of my life?

Only with answering this questions can I put a date and timeline for each of the things I would like to do with my remaining years – and finally act upon each of my days to be able to go that direction and fulfill it.

According to John Maxwell, there are generally 4 kinds of people in this world:

  • People who never see the vision – they are wanderers.
  • People who see it but never pursue it on their own – they are followers.
  • People who see it and pursue it – they are achievers.
  • People who see it, pursue it, and help others see and pursue it – they are leaders.

The former two categories of people are the most common ones. The latter two are the rare ones.

The thing is, it is the latter two categories of people that can change our world for the better. One of the missions I have as the CEO of SEO Hacker is to raise up those kinds of people. Real leaders that can someday lead people towards a better vision and tomorrow for all of us.

My organization is not just about making money. It is about creating a better future by building up more leaders that truly care about their dreams, ideals, goals and about other people. It is a big vision and I’m unsure how much of it I could accomplish with my remaining years.

But if I could build up 12 individuals in my lifetime to be those kinds of leaders,  I believe our world will be a much better place to live in for generations to come.

Most people have sight but rarely will you find people with vision.

I hope that this post has helped spark a curiosity in you that would enable you to sit down, get a pen and paper and write down your vision for your life, your family, your work and the people you influence everyday.
