Birthday surprise

It’s September 6 – I’m now 25 years old. People would say I’m now at quarter-life. Although the average lifespan of a guy today is 70 years. Technically I’m a little over 1/3rd of my life. I’d love to live long – but hey, if you’re just dead weight to the world, why stay any longer?

Never thought I’d get married at 25. I never thought I’d have my own car. Call me naive but that’s really my worldview. I never imagined earning enough to buy my own car or provide for my own wedding or buy household stuffs. The world has gotten a little smaller now that I’m a little older.

Thus far regrets have been rare in my life. I do have ’em. But not so often. Today’s the day that I want to throw all those regrets off my back. It’s my birthday afterall.

Perhaps the thing that I’m learning most in my life right now that I want to write here is my leadership. I’m an entrepreneur and a team lead of 16 people. It’s tough. People are the hardest to manage. And I’m quite unskilled in management.

I know leadership and I do practice some of its laws and principles –  such as “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Stuff like that.

I’m an inspirator, a visionary, a mover. Not a manager, not an overseer or supervisor. Those things are tough for me to do. It drains me. SEO Hacker is moving forward and I’m very happy with what God has done with the company and with the team. Right now we’re looking for a few quick wins for clients – as well as recontracting our client in the UK and one local client as well. Expenses and overheads are piling up. We need to get moving.

We have lots of requests for proposal this week. Strange. We’ve lost one really good prospect that we thought was good to go though. That’s sad. But hey, God has His purposes.

Faith in business is a tough thing. When you’re engrossed with your work and with your system and with improving stuff and innovation, sometimes we push faith out of the picture.

Right now, I need faith more than ever. There’s just too many things that I’m thinking about.

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” – Psalm 55:22

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

God cares for me. So I won’t worry. I won’t be anxious. He knows what I’m going through and He knows that we need clients and income. He has plans. I will trust in Him.

Next year is the year I get married. It marks one of the most important highlights of my life. They say that if you’re a husband, things change drastically. They say if you’re a dad, things change even more. For some reason, because of Apple, I look forward to that. I never thought that love and marriage could be this good and exciting.

Perhaps it’s already the best gift I have this year.

Perhaps.

But right now there’s pizza and pasta and everyone’s itching to eat. So I’m going out of my office room, publish this blog, and drink in the fact that I’m at 1/3rd of my life and it’s my last birthday as a single man.

Thank you Lord for birthdays and new chapters.

Cheers!
